Netti Nüganen
Netti Nüganen uses the performative moment as an occasion to distort the ways of storytelling, with the wish to challenge the existing structures and habits. Treating everything known with careful deconstruction, Nüganen questions which forms of spectatorship are needed and what’s at stake. She looks for ways to (re)establish connections with the past which would enable an intentional look upon the present and extend the perspective towards the future.
Having attained a BA in choreography at the School for New Dance Development (SNDO) in Amsterdam, Nüganen’s works have been shown across Europe, including at My Wild Flag (Stockholm), Bâtard Festival (Brussels), Pré-Urbaines (Lausanne), Tartu Art Museum, Kim? Contemporary Art Centre (Riga), Kanuti Gildi SAAL (Tallinn), Lisbon Film Festival, Lewisham Arthouse (London), Sequences Art Festival (Reykjavík), Tanzquartier Studios (Vienna) and more.
Nüganen has also been touring with Florentina Holzinger’s performances Apollon, TANZ, Ophelia’s Got Talent and SANCTA since 2017.
The Myth: last day
“How long she has been there, defying decomposition, nobody knows.” Netti Nüganen, known to ImPulsTanz audiences as part of the crew of Florentina Holzinger’s celebrated performative excesses Apollon and TANZ, rises from the dirt, only to dive back in, armed with a children’s tape recorder. Everything she finds – be it coffee beans, cucumber water or a designer handbag, be it dusty, vintage, time- or useless – gets meticulously documented. Because every object, says the pseudo-archaeologist (who later turns into a punk rocker), holds energies, myths and narratives. They reach into our present moment and can be newly unleashed aiming toward possible futures.
