Jelena Alempijević

Jelena Alempijević is a choreographer, dancer, and educator active in the contemporary dance and performing arts scene in Novi Sad, Serbia. She graduated from the State Ballet School in Novi Sad, specializing in classical ballet, and from the "Dance, Context, Choreography" programme at the University of the Arts in Berlin. She performed with the New Dance Forum of the Serbian National Theatre until its closure in 2016 and taught contemporary dance at the State Ballet School from 2011 to 2022.
Jelena is a co-founder of the Praktikabl Association – Platform for Contemporary Art and Culture, and Pokretnica – Festival of Contemporary Dance and Performance in Novi Sad. Within the Pokretnica collective, she works as an author, performer, curator, producer, and educator. Since 2019, Jelena has collaborated with the Per Art organization, leading inclusive workshops and participating in dance works involving artists with and without disabilities.
Her work emphasizes long-term collaborations, creates spaces for the sustainability of artistic work within the local performing arts scene, invites a horizontal approach to education, and involves working with marginalized and vulnerable groups. Some of her regular collaborators include Frosina Dimovska, Olivera Kovačević Crnjanski, Saša Asentić, Jovana Rakić, Željka Jakovljević, Dunja Crnjanski, Pauline Payen, and Nuria Höyng.
